Here we are in the second decade of the second millennium and it feels like we are continually bombarded with modernity – new fashions, technologies, ideas flying at us from all directions. It can at times feel overwhelming, and when it does, we find ourselves reaching for something classic, a timeless ever-present that has its place in history and makes us feel connected to things that are solid and permanent. Where are we going with this? It’s just The Drop Date’s overwrought way of saying everyone needs some classic VANS in their lives and the good people at END. have taken stock of four of our favourite styles.

END. has the SK8-HI, OLD SKOOL, ERA and SLIP-ON available to purchase now via the banners below, so let’s take a closer look.

The Vans SK8-HI, from ’78, is the classic high top skate shoe. The durable and reliable upper section is complimented with the padded collar – adding protection to the vulnerable area above the ankle, for the first time – a vulcanized rubber outsole and the Vans Off The Wall tongue patch.

The Vans OLD SKOOL, from ’77, introduced the iconic sidestripe to the world. It’s a low top lace-up with sturdy canvas and leather uppers, re-enforced toecaps and that classic Waffle sole for maximum grip.

The Vans ERA first dropped in ’75 and is the quintessential lace-up skate shoe. The effortless combination of style and comfort quickly elevated it to legendary status in the skating community. It’s crafted with a soft footbed, double-stitched vamp, padded tongue and lining – and rounded off with the sticky, grippy Waffle sole underneath.

The Vans SLIP-ON was introduced in ’77 and with the help of skateboarders and BMX riders, become all the rage in Southern California and beyond. The simple upper design – it consists of just the vamp, the quarter and the heel counter – lends itself to many imaginative reinterpretations, but END. has the classic checkerboard and other tonal colourways.
