Nike LunarCharge – A First Look

The NIKE LUNARCHARGE is a fresh new model that showcases decades of creative ingenuity in a modern, easy-to-wear design.

The Nike LunarCharge is a brand-new shoe utilising Nike’s Lunarlon cushioning system, which we first saw on the LunarEpic earlier this year. Borrowing style cues from the past and matching them with cutting edge technology is no easy task. To create the final design, the designers at Nike dug into the running archives and brought five game changers to the table to provide inspiration: the AIR CURRENT, the AIR FLOW, the iconic AIR MAX 90, the AIR PRESTO and, finally, the new LUNAREPIC.

Looking at the LunarCharge from the side, it’s no surprise to learn that the Air Current from 1990 provided the inspiration for the overall shape and silhouette of the design. Sleek, aerodynamic lines have been carefully matched with smooth, rounded edging reminiscent of aircraft or spacecraft design. Neoprene, as seen on the Air Flow back in 1988, has been used extensively across the upper section, adding flexibility to the top of the shoe, offset with the eye stays from the Air Max 90 for an element of bold, confident detailing. The Air Presto has loaned its internal bootie construction for a snug, comfortable fit, whilst the laser-siped Lunarlon outsole from the LunarEpic sits underfoot for a light, responsive feel. The use of simple greyscale tones keeps any visual disruption to a minimum, showcasing the clean lines of the silhouette to full effect. The Nike LunarCharge is a strong, agile design – a perfect example of just how visionary the Nike design team has been since day one.
