NikeLab x Kim Jones Packable Sport Style collection – Release Info

The NIKELAB x KIM JONES Packable Sport Style collection gives us a unique insight into the Louis Vuitton style director’s creative vision, marrying high-end fashion ethos with sportswear functionality.

Utilising an updated version of the NIKE AIR ZOOM LWP silhouette, Kim Jones placed his own spin on the original vehicle for Zoom Air technology. When asked about the model’s original Zoom 95 upper and Air Max 1 foundation, Jones responded that, “I like the fact that it has come from an old shoe but has become a completely new shoe. It took quite a few tries to get it right. At first it was too chunky and then it was too skinny. I was thinking about a shoe that I would really like to wear and be proud of. To have a Nike sneaker is an amazing thing. It’s a real honour.“

Kim’s travel schedules, like his designs, stretch beyond typical boundaries: expeditions through eras, images and memories, which in Jones’ case include East London (his hometown and the site of his first Nike connection) and his fashion archives, populated with over 500 pairs of sneakers. It’s a conceptual collage of these journeys that inform the collection, which is also influenced by anticipating travel to Rio and the complementary items an athlete might pack for an effortless trip. As well as the shoe, the collaboration included of a lightweight packable Windrunner jacket, engineered with minimal seams along with a water-resistant woven fabric. These initial three colours of the LWP are imminent – but will we see the clean white/tan edition that showed up in last month’s Fashion Week images? Time will tell…
