The Puma Suede was firmly adopted by a wide range of fans, who found the low cut simple styling easy to wear in any situation. As a result, the shoe has found a wealth of fans across a wide variety of subcultures and scenes – including skateboarding. Whilst skaters wore a wide range of brands and models for many years, the early ’90s San Francisco skate scene (primarily the EMB crew) took to wearing Clydes, Baskets and various other classic low tops. They were relatively inexpensive at the time, well made and, most importantly, they looked good both on and off the board. Look back through any videos or magazines of the era and you’ll see just how common the PUMA Formstripe was in the skate scene.
