Scott Seamans, Lyndon Hanson, and George Boedbecker Jr founded Crocs in Colorado in 2002.
Coming across a boat clog when sailing made from a new EVA foam material called Croslite, the trio quickly acquired the rights to the manufacturing process from the Canadian company Foam Creations and secured exclusive right to the technology.
The first prototype sold out immediately when it was revealed at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, and the brand then launched ‘the Beach’, the first Croc model, which is now known as Crocs Classics.
The moulded, non-slip and wipe-clean design of Crocs led to them becoming very popular amongst people who worked on their feet for hours, like nurses and kitchen workers.
Comfortable, breathable, and easy to clean, every Croc clog features thirteen holes in the top and sides. Crocs also purchased the Jibbitz company in 2006, which are small accessories that can snap into these holes.
Love them or hate them, Crocs are here to stay, with over 100 different styles for women, men and children.
With Takashi Murakami, Croc's first major artist collaboration featured a colourful camouflage print and the iconic Ursa Bear character from Murakami, which was made into a Jibbitz.
Kane set a precedent for collaborations on the famous clog by unveiling the first ever pair of designer Crocs at his London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 show. Marble-print colorways featured mineral stone Jibbitz accents. The designer then released tiger-print Crocs with floral Jibbitz two months later.
A Crocs collaboration by London skate brand Palace was dressed in desert camo and adorned with a variety of colourful Jibbitz such as turtles and pound signs.
A surprise release from the brand, Palace’s message to the doubters was ‘Don’t knock it till you tried it’.
As part of this collaboration, Lucky Charms and Crocs decorated their red and gold clogs with rainbows, leprechaun Jibbitz, and slogans such as 'Magically Delicious'.
Although Post Malone has completed a few collaborations with the brand, one of the artist's most memorable releases with Crocs was the Duet Max shoe that launched in 2019 - a rugged, chunky silhouette with Velcro straps and a lobster-claw Jibbitz.
