Sneaker Politics Take Us to the Mardi Gras with the Adidas Consortium Gazelle PK

The ADIDAS CONSORTIUM x SNEAKER POLITICS GAZELLE PK celebrates Mardi Gras: the rich and vibrant musical festival celebrated in New Orleans.

Since opening their first store in 2006, Sneaker Politics have played a pivotal role in putting the Pelican State on the sneaker map. For a fortnight in February, over one million visitors will join locals to celebrate Mardi Gras: a vibrant carnival to mark the beginning of Lent. In 1982 the King of Carnival, the leader of one of the oldest and influential Mardi Gras organisations, declared the krewe’s colours: purple for justice, green for faith, and gold for power. Taking this as inspiration on this special Gazelle, these colours are combined to form a distinct pattern in its Primeknit upper.

An integral part of Mardi Gras tradition is the baking and eating of the King Cake: a large, round cake topped with purple, green, gold and white frosting. This deluxe dessert serves as the theme behind the materials used on the Gazelle, with the gum sole reflecting the colour of the brioche itself. The Primeknit upper features cream coloured premium suede overlays, with a leather lining and co-branded leather insole tucked away on the inside. For extra comfort, there’s a fleece-backed Primeknit tongue with a co-branded suede label. To round the package off nicely, there are three sets of laces: white, gold threaded with gold tips and a special Mardi Gras multicolor with ‘Mardi Gras’ branded aglets. Sneaker Politics went to town on this project and we’re looking forward to seeing these shoes in the flesh when they drop
