The ADIDAS ORIGINALS SWEDISH SATELLITE PACK sees a trio of silhouettes all pay homage to the first Swedish Satellite.

Back in the Fifties, when NASA was in its early stages, astronaut John Glenn brought his personal camera to take pictures while he was in space. The results were somewhat mediocre, and NASA realised that there was a need for more professional equipment. After some research, NASA worked out that the most efficient way would be to just buy a model of the Swedish camera manufacturer, Hasselblad, over the counter in a camera store in Houston. This marked the beginning of a collaboration between NASA and Hasselblad that has continued for over 50 years. All of the pictures you have seen of and from Space, have all been taken with a Hasselblad camera.

There is however one series of photos taken in space that will never be seen; as in 1966, whilst on NASA’s space program Gemini X, astronaut Michael Collins lost the Hasselblad camera whilst out on his spacewalk. It is now forever lost in space, possibly still in orbit around Earth, and has become known as the first SWEDISH SATELLITE. The SWEDISH SATELLITE PACK, which is exclusive to SNEAKERSNSTUFF, draws inspiration from this story to create a trio of out of this world colourways.

The STAN SMITH ‘SPACESUIT’ takes its inspiration from the spacesuits that were used on the spacewalks. Matte silver leather dominates the upper, offset by a red, white and blue velcro patch on the tongue. Star-perforated Three Stripes on the sides are a subtle nod to the Stars and Stripes, which is made more obvious by the flag on the heel of the right foot, whilst the Swedish flag can be found on the left.

The TUBULAR RUNNER ‘STARRY’, as the name suggests, is inspired by stars. A very toned-down all-black upper, with open mesh upper and suede details for a more premium feeling, sits on a matching all-black sole for a very discreet look. If you shine some light on the situation, you’ll discover the reflective stars that are initially hidden across the uppers. To round things off, a silver lining helps to tie the shoe in with the rest of the pack.

The SUPERSTAR ‘CAMERA’ rounds off the pack with an upper dominated by black tumbled leather, as a reference to the leather that covered the cameras used by NASA in the early days. The numbers and marks on the heel of the shoe are inspired by the lens of the Hasselblad camera that is still floating around in space somewhere. The finish on the heel tab and Three Stripes are a nod to the rubber grip seen on the lens of old cameras, whilst the use of silver on the lining is again there to tie in to the rest of the pack.

The ADIDAS ORIGINALS SWEDISH SATELLITE PACK is split into three separate drops, with the STAN SMITH ‘SPACESUIT’ dropping first on SATURDAY 12 SEPTEMBER, followed by the TUBULAR RUNNER ‘STARRY’ on WEDNESDAY 16 SEPTEMBER and finally the SUPERSTAR ‘CAMERA’ on SATURDAY 19 SEPTEMBER. All three pairs will be available on their respective drop dates via the banner below.
