First released in 1986, the Air Jordan II was an absolute rule-breaker. Designed by Peter Moore, it took surprising style cues from women’s boots, and more shockingly at the time, moved away from a logo-dominated design by neglecting any reference of Nike’s iconic Swoosh. Intended to be a high-end footwear choice for wear both on and off the court, it was inspired by Michael Jordan’s love for premium Italian leather footwear beyond his basketball wear commitments. Returning to the market this month as an expertly considered trio, the Air Jordan II Decon does exactly what it says on the tin and unravels the popular silhouette for everyday lifestyle wear.

The result is a lighter and more compact design that retains everything that made the Air Jordan II great, including its ballsy minimalistic logo presence. The upper is “deconstructed” to an all-over suede covering, which means we say goodbye to the II’s trademark Iguana-inspired leather panels. All traces of performance wear are overlooked, with the inner lining and ankle collar also being removed,  but the slight aesthetic tweak makes all the difference in offering up a truly unique basketball inspired silhouette.
