ASICS X ONITSUKA TIGER X HANON GLOVER PACK – 27.9.14

 

Bringing together three of our favourites in one go, the ASICS X ONITSUKA TIGER X HANON GLOVER PACK definitely quenches our thirst for well-designed and considered collaborative projects. Connecting a Japanese theme set by Asics and Onitsuka Tiger with a Scottish theme set by the Aberdeen retail legends, we’re particularly excited to see two different models on offer this time.

Paying tribute to the original Scottish samurai and explorer Thomas Glover, there are two models being used as the base for this project – the Gel-Epirus and the Colorado Eighty-Five. The Gel-Epirus is a classic runner from the Asics archive and is given a thistle-themed colourway, with mint green suede, purple nubuck, red collars and a tartan in-sock. An embossed thistle on the heel overlay and standard Hanon ‘flame’ logo on the insole rounds this one off perfectly.

The Colorado Eighty-Five is the second of the two models, and where the first shoe borrows from Scotland’s rich and varied heritage, this one is fully adorned in Japanese influence. The black and gold colourway invokes the idea of the ‘land of the rising sun’, with clever references to Thomas Glover’s tea trading – and his moustache! – and a shimmering silver collar and Tiger stripe lining to reference his effect on Japan’s industrial revolution. There’s a lot going on with these, with plenty of nice details but the shoes avoid looking messy due to the clever design and complimentary colours. Extra laces add a little extra into the mix too!
