After combining to produce a medieval-themed take on the Onitsuka Tiger X-Caliber, German outfit THE GOOD WILL OUT have graduated to the big time—putting their spin on sister brand ASICS’ frontline retro runner, the GEL LYTE V.
As has become ritual, the shoe has an inspirational nickname from which its colours and textures are drawn: Koyo. Koyo is a Japanese word and phenomenon, referring to the beautiful red leaves that fall from trees in the autumn. We have a suspicion that only a Japanese autumn could make a shoe look this good; a British take would be decidedly…browner.
Accordingly, three shades of burgundy have been applied to the upper, which is a combo of solid and perforated nubuck, with yellow hits, referencing the edges of these unfeasibly picturesque fallen leaves, supplied by the branding on the tongue, midfoot, heel, outsole and backing stripes. A really nice touch is the leather heel panel, which has the veiny, crinkled texture of a dead leaf. As if there weren’t enough autumnal references there, the inner bootie and footbeds also feature leaf prints, as well as logos from each brand, plus the midsole hosts a moss green wave and sparse speckles of the same colour.
3 sets of laces are included, which is a welcome touch. THE GOOD WILL OUT x ASICS GEL-LYTE V ‘KOYO’ will be released worldwide this SATURDAY 25 OCTOBER 2014, and you can find all stockist info via the link-through below.
