New Balance 120 Days

The NEW BALANCE 120 DAYS campaign aims to inspire us all, with a series of engaging stories from five runners on their journey to the London Marathon 2019.

Focusing on the highs and lows of training, Leon, Matilda, Matt, Sophie and Lloyd are set to show us ‘the gritty reality of training for a marathon’ and ‘the sheer determination and commitment made by each and every runner ahead of the big day.’ The five individuals each have their own reasons for wanting to take part in the legendary event. Leon, who works on Savile Row, has a passion for running and records and started running after a bike accident. Having suffered with depression, running became a means to escape and added an element of positivity to his life. Matilda leads a community called ‘Fly Girl Collective’, which she created to encourage more BAME (black, Asian and minority ethnic women) to pursue a fitness lifestyle. “My purpose for running the marathon is to show other black women like me that it’s possible, because representation matters in all aspects of life, not least fitness”, she says, hoping to inspire like-minded people to participate.

Sophie uses running to help deal with anxiety, which inspired her decision to raise money for Mind, a charity close to her heart. As a poet, DJ and radio show host, this will be her first time running the Marathon. Matt is a passionate runner who overcame testicular cancer in 2014 and has been in remission for four years. Far from feeling held back by life’s events, this will be his third London Marathon. Last, but by no means least, Lloyd is a full-time student-athlete at St Mary’s University, studying Sports Coaching Science. As a junior athletics coach, he also runs ‘Team Project Run’: an online coaching business, with the aim of inspiring others to get into running.
