Nike Air Force 1 iD – Focus & Design Competition

We’ve covered a selection of running models and low-top classics in our recent run of NIKEiD features, so this time we thought we’d aim a little higher… The NIKE AIR FORCE 1 HIGH iD and its slightly lower-profile companion, the NIKE AIR FORCE 1 MID iD, are two of our favourite high-top models to ever hit the NIKEiD platform. A staple silhouette in the Nike arsenal, it’s no surprise to find a variety of decent options – both materials and colours – are available here.

The colour option on the current selection is the ubiquitous and much-loved camouflage pattern: you’ve got traditional woodland camo canvas or the more contemporary option of digi camo canvas. Add in some classic mesh and leather options and four different sole choices (including the highly durable and perfect-for-winter Duckboot unit) and you’ve got excellent customisation potential.

To begin with, we started with the AF1 High – and got to work with the various options for the upper section. With winter coming up, there are several appropriate frosty blue combinations to be mixed and compiled. The first shoe we made uses black digi camo canvas, offset with Porpoise blue leather underlay and strap. A black midsole keeps things bold underfoot, with a cool grey and white multi outsole to round it off. Next up, and keeping with the blue end of the spectrum, we’ve used Blue Brigade woodland camo canvas, a speckled Lunar midsole and another dash of Porpoise to finish with. The third and final of our AF1 High colourways is the unbeatable combination of Forest Green woodland camo with Safety Orange detailing: you just can’t go wrong with the contrasting of these two options!

For those who are looking for something a little more low-cut, but with more support than the basic low-top model, then the AF1 Mid has definitely got you covered. The colours and material options are just as good as its big brother: there’s plenty of camo, leather and mesh to get to grips with here. To kick off, we looked at the monochrome side of things and used the Cool Grey woodland camo canvas on the heel/eyestay/tip section. Black mesh provides a solid base, whilst Safety Orange makes a reappearance for the outsole, Swoosh and lining. Taking things a little brighter on the next shoe, we’ve gone for Gym Red leather underlays and matching Gym Red digi camo canvas. A classic white midsole and black Swoosh is the perfect accompaniment for this one. Finally, we thought we’d try out a design that started with the rugged Duckboot sole unit in black and gum, with some white speckles thrown on for good measure. Black leather and Bamboo digi camo canvas gets the gift of a gold Swoosh on top for a royal finish to this seasonally-appropriate creation.
