NIKE AIR MAX 1 FCB iD - NIKEiD COMPETITION

The NIKE AIR MAX 1 FCB iD shows off the very best of the NIKEiD platform, taking a classic base shoe, some premium material options and enough special details to make it a truly worthwhile experience. Although this release celebrates the passion and love for the mighty FC BARCELONA football team, the appeal extends way beyond a love of the beautiful game. With that in mind, and having seen a few images of what was on offer, we visited NIKETOWN LONDON to work up our own creation, with NIKEiD’s own Will Smith on hand to take us through the different options.

For those of you who haven’t yet visited the iD Studio at Niketown, it’s a well-designed space that shows off the possibilities of the iD platform in a warm and inviting space. There are plenty of designs on the walls to act as inspiration, along with books of material swatches and sole units so you can get a good idea of what your design will look like in the flesh when it arrives 3-4 weeks after submitting your design.

But whilst the iD studio is great, the beauty of the NIKEiD programme is being able to design everything from the comfort of your own home. The design process is easy to follow and if you start with one of the suggested inspiration colourways, you can create something great in a matter of minutes. Rather than going straight for the kill, we explored all the different options on offer. With such a iconic shoe, we wanted to look at every possibility: leather panels, mesh toeboxes and deluxe suede swooshes were all part of our design process before settling on something that we felt looked great.

Our Air Max 1 design makes the most of the black suede and mesh options, keeping things low-key on top but adding a sunlight airbag and loyal blue/noble red camo outsole to catch the eye when we’re out and about. The black and white speckled midsole is smart (and should keep the scuff marks at bay) and the FCB black and white crest on the heel is a regal sign-off to a premium piece of footwear.
