Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit

The NIKE AIR MAX 1 ULTRA FLYKNIT pack unites classic Air Max styling with modern technology for a logical update to one of the best-loved silhouettes in the Nike archives.

Taking one of Tinker Hatfield’s original designs and updating it must be an exciting and nerve-wracking task. In Tinker’s own words, “I clearly have a strong affinity for the Air Max; however, it’s even more fun and amazing to watch our younger Design & Development teams operate. Design Innovation is picking up speed around here and a perfect example is through Flyknit.“.

The task of updating the design fell to Ben Yun, who said “The biggest challenge was figuring out how to nail down the important design lines that inherently belong to the silhouette of the Air Max 1. When you see the Air Max 1 from far away, you immediately see the contrast color between the swoosh and the shoe. In order to get the exact line we had to design an overlay, which for me was cool, to go back to a design that was more crafted with a unique texture and feel“.

We’ve seen hints and teaser images of what was to come in this pack over the past few months, but now we can reveal all six colourways of this contemporary hybrid: University Red, Voltage Green, Dark Obsidian, Bright Crimson, Volt and a multicoloured Photo Blue/Pink Blast option. To keep things sleek, the side panels and the Swoosh have been heat-sealed to the Flyknit upper for a clean no-sew finish, whilst the Ultra sole and Max Air unit sit underneath providing a lightweight and comfortable foundation. As classic runners go, this is a great option for the warmer months.
