The Nike Air Max 2090 Sparks a New Era for the Swoosh Staple

When Tinker Hatfield designed in the Air Max 90 (originally as the Air Max III) way back in 1990 – he didn’t just design a shoe – he kickstarted a footwear revolution. Now, three decades later, we’re still celebrating that exact model…but as always, the swoosh is looking to the future with not one but three upgrades to the icon. The 2090 leads the way, retaining the original mudguard, heel logo and the prominent “cassette” Air Unit from the AM90 blueprint; only with a variety of new updates hitting the shoe. A mix of both opaque and see-through fabrications make up the upper portion, the Air Unit is enlarged, a cropped swoosh stretches down the sides, and it is even treated to an improved tread underfoot. The model is set to debut this spring in a selection of colourways inspired by the future of transportation, harking back to the OG AM90 colourways and their parallels with Italian sports cars.
