Nike Air Presto NikeiD - iD Studio Session

The NIKE AIR PRESTO NIKEiD brings the much-loved ‘t-shirt for your feet’ to the excellent customisation platform. Sorely missed for many years, the return of the Presto has been well-received by many and its reappearance on NIKEiD is very welcome. Whilst we’ve spent hours looking at the possibilities online (see here for our initial report), Nike invited us to come and try out the options in person at the iD Studio in NIKETOWN LONDON. We didn’t need asking twice…

The iD Studio at Niketown is a well-designed environment that shows off the possibilities of the iD platform in an exciting and welcoming space. There are plenty of designs and lots of visual stimulation on the walls to inspire you, and a good selection of previous creations to pick up and study. As well as the cultural references, there are material swatches, sole units and other shoe elements to look at, giving you a good idea of what your creation will look like when it arrives 3-4 weeks after submitting your design.

For those who can’t get to the iD Studio in person, the beauty of the NIKEiD programme is being able to design everything online, from the comfort of your own home. The design process is easy to follow and if you start with one of the suggested inspiration colourways, you can create something great in a matter of minutes. Having followed the Presto since its debut back in 2000, we wanted to explore some of the newer options available, rather than simply creating a classic colourway.

Our iD studio guide for the session, Rive, took us through the different options, with useful advice on the merits of each selection. As we’re about to hit the colder months of the year, and having been so impressed with the recent Fleece editions, we thought that Poly Fleece would be a good starting point for our shoe. A simple Wolf Grey/Black fade provided a strong base for the Midnight Navy cage, toe and heel loop, on top of a white midsole for some contrast. Being able to customise the crash pad (the heel section) allows you to balance things out – we went for Tumbled Grey, which matches the front of the uppers and should be reasonably good at hiding any annoying scuffs.

With the main part of the shoe done, it was time to add the accents. After testing a few variations, we decide that Tour Yellow was going to work perfectly here: we added speckles to the crash pad, chose a simple Swoosh for the toe branding and added our Personal iD to the cage to complete the design. With the shoe finished, it was time to choose the laces: as you’d expect, there are the classic solid laces on offer, but the new speckle laces looked like they’d compliment our creation perfectly. The finished shoe was a million miles away from what we’d originally planned in our heads, showing just how beneficial visiting the iD Studio can be.
