Take a Trip Back to the ’90s with the Nike Air Zoom Alpha Retro

The NIKE AIR ZOOM ALPHA joins the ranks of the Skylon and other missed models from the Nike Running archives in a new retro format for 2019.

Heralding the launch of the Zoom Air system, this model is a great example of the mid-late ’90s innovation that came from the Nike running department. Its arrival in 1996 was preceded by one of our favourite print ad campaigns by Weiden+Kennedy: leaving plenty to the imagination, the sparse layout of the adverts featured the sole of the Zoom Alpha and a phone number… and that was it. The contoured shape deviates from the recent chunky shapes, whilst the overlays and panels utilised across the upper make the shoe look both advanced and antiquated at the same time.
