Waffly Versatile: the Nike Daybreak SP is Available Now

The NIKE DAYBREAK SP eases into general release territory after finding itself utilised on Jun Takahashi’s recent UNDERCOVER collaboration.

40 years since its initial release, Nike has brought back the Daybreak runner in another three colours that feel era-appropriate without playing things too safe. Look closely and you’ll soon spot plenty of visible links with other classic styles, such as the LDV and Air Tailwind ’79, but the Daybreak stands aloft, with its claim to be the first shoe to utilise the iconic Waffle outsole. Nike founder Bill Bowerman’s invention is one of folklore and legend, with tales of urethane being poured into breakfast waffle irons and other such activities. This outsole sits underneath an EVA midsole, which offers unparalleled shock-absorption and traction in equal measure. The nylon and suede uppers keep things in appropriate style up on top: these three colours – Pink, Black and Blue – echo the vintage vibe perfectly.
