The Nike Dunk Low City Market Tells the Story of Creative Reuse

The NIKE DUNK LOW CITY MARKET is a vibrant, lively edition of the shoe of the moment, this time telling the story of upcycled materials and their role in Nike’s back story.

It goes without saying, but Nike has ensured that all Dunk fans have been well-catered to over the past few months: we’ve seen an endless run of both limited drops and strong general releases, guaranteeing that the shoe remains on everyone’s feet. Utilising graphics and colours to celebrate Nike’s use of repurposed and upcycled materials and their overall role in the brand’s heritage, this latest Dunk also gives a nod to Nike’s Blue Ribbon Sports roots. Industrial rice sacks, coffee bags and other key elements from marketplace environments influence the design further, resulting in a rich montage-style tapestry across the whole of the shoe’s upper section. Translucent Swooshes on the sides keep things on track visually, whilst the white midsole sits on top of a cream-coloured rubber outsole. A small zippered compartment nods to reusable grocery storage, with its accompanying tag styled to resemble a nutritional facts label. To round the package off properly, an accompanying grocery bag pays its respects with a simple commendation: “Thank You For Caring!”.
