Coming Soon: the Nike SB Dunk High Doraemon Celebrates 50 Years of Robotic Cat Antics

The NIKE SB DUNK HIGH DORAEMON celebrates the little blue Japanese anime character’s 50th birthday with a new edition of the classic high-top skate shoe.

Long before the Dunk High became a street staple, it was a top tier basketball performance shoe. After early exploratory sessions, both the Dunk and the Jordan 1 were adopted by certain individuals in the skateboard scene. With trusty ankle support, comfortable midsoles, and durable uppers, it was the perfect non-skate skate shoe. Needless to say, the Dunk was the perfect vehicle to launch to SB program in early 2002. This edition takes its theming from Fujiko Fujio’s Japanese manga series, Doraemon, featuring the loveable cat robot from the 22nd Century, who was sent to help Nobita Nobi, a troubled young boy. The Light Photo Blue, Speed Yellow, and University Red color scheme mimics the hero’s own colours, with details such as the yellow tongues and lace locks referencing his collar and bell. A strong colourway on a classic model is more than enough, but with Doraemon’s approval thrown into the mix too, it’s a no-brainer.
