Bold in Black and Gold: On-Foot with the Nike Air VaporMax 2019

The NIKE AIR VAPORMAX 2019 marks the next step in the VaporMax’s legacy, launching with this deluxe black and gold colourway. We took a pair for an early test run to give you an exclusive preview of what’s looking like one of the most exciting new models for 2019…

The original Nike VaporMax fulfilled the mission to ‘provide lightweight, consistent cushioning that lasts’: a concept and aim which was first started by the original Air Max model way back in 1987. The research and development that went into the technical aspects of the VaporMax elevated the shoe above anything else on the market, but with its futuristic design and incredibly lightweight construction, it shook the footwear scene like nothing else. There was no denying that the VaporMax was well and truly on the map.

Two years later, Nike has emerged from the laboratory with some exciting updates for the VaporMax’s 2019 edition. The uppers retain the lightweight quality of the predecessor, but are now constructed using Nexkin: a translucent fabric that provides advanced durability and protection from the elements. There’s a new inner cage to hold the foot steady, backed up with a TPU heel clip which keeps the back of the foot and heel in place. A special TPU coating gives the Air units a new translucent shimmer whilst providing consistent cushioning for walking or running. The swoosh is now more prominently featured on each mid panel, with taped seams holding everything securely together, whilst updated branding features on the new tongue tag and heel section. Dressed in a bold combination of black with metallic gold accents, the VaporMax 2019 is perfect for the time of year: what better shoe to be seen in as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve?
