If you were paying attention to Paris Fashion Week last week, and we know you were you trend-obsessed fashionista you, you would have spotted the debut of the NIKE VAPORMAX FOR COMME DES GARÇONS during the CDG Paris SP17 collection runway show.
In creating this sleek, futuristic-looking silhouette, the CDG supremo Rei Kawakubo has applied her signature modernist and deconstructive touch to the Nike Air VaporMax. The marriage between a forward looking designer like Kawakubo and Nike Air is one made in sneakerhead heaven as VaporMax’s design offers designers a uniquely interesting canvas to work from. The VaporMax innovative construction allows the air-cushioning unit to act as a standalone outsole, enabling designers to incorporate the Air and exterior layer into one integrated VaporMax Air heel unit – thus eliminating the need for a foam outsole. This in turn reduces weight, waste and adds flexibility and spring.
Kawakubo has opted for a flyknit upper, allowing her to create a slip-on style trainer, which will be available in black or white. Nike says the VaporWare technology will enable other designers to create similarly striking shoes. If this CDG collab is anything to go by, we say “more please!”.
The NIKE VAPORMAX FOR COMME DES GARÇONS is due to release in early 2017: keep checking back for the full release information. In the meantime, click the banner below to check the current Air Max collection at NIKE.
