The Nike x CLOT Max 1 Kiss of Death CHA Pays Tribute to Chinese Tea Culture

2021-03-23T12:11:56

The NIKE X CLOT AIR MAX 1 KISS OF DEATH CHA follows the recent retro drop of the iconic CLOT Air Max 1 ‘Kiss of Death’ project, taking its design and colour cues from an important component of Chinese life and society: the art and practice of drinking tea.

Founded by Edison Chen & Kevin Poon in 2003, Hong Kong streetwear brand CLOT has many successful collaborations under its belt. Despite having that Midas touch, their original Air Max 1 project from 2006 remains to be one of the pinnacle moments in their history. Unsurprisingly, the return of the shoe in 2021 was met with enthusiasm, selling out instantly when it dropped in early March. This previously-unseen edition is based on one of the original prototype colourways for the 2006 release, paying tribute to the many different varieties of Chinese tea. Established as part of daily life in China, tea is considered one of the “seven necessities of Chinese life” and is both recognised and acclaimed across the globe. Rocky Tan, Sport Red and Medium Brown make for an appropriate colour palette with other details, such as the reflexology diagram under the outsole, elevating this release into the premium category.

According to various sources, the NIKE X CLOT AIR MAX 1 KISS OF DEATH CHA is debuting at CLOT’s FW21 DYNASTY presentation in Shanghai on SATURDAY 27 MARCH, with a China-exclusive drop to follow shortly afterwards.
