The Purple Lobster Comes Ashore with the Nike x Concepts Dunk Low Pro SB OG

The NIKE x CONCEPTS DUNK LOW PRO SB OG brings back the crustacean-themed collaboration series with Concepts, this time in a rich, deep purple colourway that’s bound to be popular.

The Nike SB Dunk might have started life as a basketball shoe – if you were in any doubt, the name kinda gives it away – but by fattening the tongue, the collar and adding Zoom Air insoles, it transformed the shoe into a world-class skate model. Upon its release in 2002, the SB Dunk did incredibly well, introducing this classic design to a totally new generation and extending its lifespan tenfold. With that in mind, it also proved to be the perfect canvas for collaboration projects.

The Concepts sneaker boutique in Cambridge, Massachusetts is perhaps best known for its collaborative series of Dunks, named and styled after that highly-prized sea creature, the lobster. Released as a homage to the local fishing community, Concepts designed the shoe with an array of clever and appropriate details such as speckled leather uppers, chequered tablecloth lining and thick rubber bands across the toeboxes. As one of the most inventive and eye-catching Dunk releases, it’s no wonder that it’s been brought back in different guises several times: the initial red Lobster Dunk dropped in 2008, with the blue version dropping the following year. And for those with friends in high places (or those with deep pockets), there was the hyperstrike yellow version, which remains one of the most sought-after Dunks ever created. For the end of 2018, Concepts return with the Purple Lobster: a smart addition to the collection. there’s not much more that needs to be said, as it’ll be netted and taken to shore before you can say ‘crawfish’.
