Nike X PIGALLE – PPP Collection – 26.4.14

Continuing a decade-long relationship between Nike and PIGALLE (AKA the Pain O Chokolat crew), the NIKE x PPP (PAIN O CHOKOLAT, PIGALLE PARIS, POMPON) COLLECTION brings the spirit of Paris’s streetwear masters to sportswear. Founding member of the PPP crew, Stéphane Ashpool played professional basketball back in the day and currently coaches at the community basketball court he petitioned to build.

The full collaboration includes two sets of tank tops and jerseys, T-shirts, hats, basketballs, and perhaps the highlight of the whole collection, two beautiful PIGALLE x NIKE AIR FORCE 1s. It’s not often you get to throw the term ‘beautiful’ around (especially when talking about one of the most solid basketball models of all-time). The finishing and overall aesthetic to the footwear conjures mental images of worn basketball courts, gymnasium floors and traditional shoemaking techniques: it really is a deluxe creation. The Nike Air Force 1 was Ashpool’s footwear of choice on the court, making a credible connection for the choice of shoe in this collaboration:

“I like the fact the AF1 was released the year I was born — 1982. I love the little details like that. I wanted to take the shoe and bring it to life. When you put the shoe on you see the story, so I wanted to relate the patina, the way of dyeing and the texture together so it has the feeling of life.”
