The NIKELAB AIR FORCE 1 TECH CRAFT CMFT was first unveiled at the NYC-based Rochambeau label’s AW17 runway show a while back, and is available now.
NikeLab’s remastered take on Bruce Kilgore’s iconic silhouette arrives in two colourways: Black/White for men and an All Sail (off white) look for women. As you might expect from a NikeLab drop, there is extra emphasis on premium materials; in this instance, a smooth leather upper construction is contrasted with exposed raw edges. The ankle straps are thinner than usual, contributing to a sleeker look, while the side panels introduce ventilated perforations. . Besides the colour options, there is one other difference between the men’s and women’s shoes: the toeboxes feature different woven patterns, with a herringbone effect on women’s while the men are treated to a bolstered Kevlar-esque style fabric. A deconstructed ankle collar hides a more supportive inner-bootie, while embossed branding and tonal laces complete the look for the updated classic.
While technically this isn’t a Rochambeau collab, NikeLab has been very active with fashion labels and New York Fashion Week, including recent collaborative efforts with ACRONYM, COMME des GARÇONS and Riccardo Tisci. Such is the appeal of Nike’s classic basketball silhouettes, that they can effortlessly switch from the street to the catwalk without breaking a sweat.
