More NikeLab goodness, this time in the form of the NIKELAB AIR MAX 1 PINNACLE PACK, which sees the classic silhouette receiving some special treatment with premium materials.
The Air Max 1 Pinnacle has been clad in top notch leather and will drop in four colourways: Black, an Sail, Ocean Fog/Thunder Blue, and Iced Jade/Cargo Khaki – these latter two offering some interesting colour blocking options. Every pair is finished off with Sail sole units, keeping the look classic and vintage. This drop follows the NikeLab team’s monochromatic offerings from last summer and have again opted to keep things fairly simple but elegant. The Air Max 1 was of course designed by Tinker Hatfield, and his design remains one of the most important shoes in Nike’s history. A definitive game changer from day one, the AM1 (or Air Max 87, as some like to refer to it) brought visible Air windows, advanced contouring and a bold aesthetic to the running shoe category. For any budding Tinker Hatfields out there seeking design inspiration, the story is that Tinker got his from the Le Centres George Pompidou in Paris. The center has an ‘inside out’ design and it is this that helped Tinker envision the Air Max cushioning coming out from beneath the foam of the midsole to actually being an exposed part of the shoe’s aesthetic. Obviously the late ’80s were a more innocent time, a time when people visited places without having their eyeballs glued to a smartphone…
