Pushing the Limits: OVERKILL x adidas Consortium ZX 10.000C ‘I Can If I Want’

Both brands on this project are renowned for a strong appreciation for detail, it’s no surprise to learn that there’s more to this special collaborative project than first meets the eye… With the 30th anniversary of adidas’s 1.000 series upon us, Overkill’s crew have created a new “I Can If I Want” makeup with the newly introduced ZX 10.000 C. The new model, which unmistakably carries the ZX DNA, results from teamwork by creative adidas designers and the legendary Jacques Chassaing, who was involved in the development of the original ZX series in the 1980s. The shoe features an Oddity-style colourway, utilising favourite colour schemes and combinations from the heritage of ’90s Berlin and the ZX archives.

If you thought that was it, you’d be wrong: there’s another additional element that puts this release into new unchartered territories… Instead of a single pair of shoes, there’s a third shoe, chosen and placed randomly — it’s either a left or right shoe, depending on the package. You can keep things traditional or go full-on Oddity by wearing a mismatched pair. For those who fancy a challenge, you can also try and track down the matching shoe for the other foot. As the ZX series’ original marketing slogan was “I Want, I Can,” Overkill has pushed things about as far as they can go… Or have they? Time will tell…

To accompany the launch of this special pack, the Overkill team and adidias have set up an exhibition featuring original ZX models from the 1000 series and a video produced especially for this occasion. Overkill went to adidas in Herzogenaurach to meet the Consortium Design Team that was involved in the development of the ZX 10.000 C, to film a series of interviews which will be edited and presented on a huge 270° video screen.
