PUMA at ComplexCon 2019: Event Recap

2019-11-06T17:13:19

The winter edition of COMPLEXCON 2019 took place in Long Beach, Los Angeles last weekend, of which we were lucky enough to attend. Hosted by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and Pharrell Williams, the convention boasted an insane selection of stalls including shops, food vendors, and art stands; as well as live performances and talks throughout its duration, with guest appearances from Kid Cudi, Lil Kim and Anderson .Paak.

We beelined over to the Puma area, which took on the theme of “Futro Land” for this 2019 edition. The brand’s area was transformed into a futuristic carnival, featuring attractions such as traditional ring toss and dart games to ski ball and a palm reader – blending the world’s of both modern and retro gaming. Like all good fairground games, there were extra-special prizes to be won, such as the PUMA Rider Bicycle, PUMA x Chinatown Market footballs or a pair of the Future, Fast or Style Rider.

In terms of product, Puma put a great emphasis on their Rider Collection, which takes retro runners from the past forward to create a modern-day lifestyle shoe. They joined forces with recent collaborators Chinatown Market to provide a limited spin on the Future Rider model in which customers were able to participate in on-the-spot modifications at the Customization Bar, enabling them to reinvent the footwear model and accompanying merchandise with patches and graphics. We were also treated to a preview of upcoming Rider colourways in the Palm Reading Room, but more on that as it surfaces…
