The PUMA FROM THE GROUND UP COLLECTION reflects the tendency of match-goers to dress from the feet up when Saturday comes.

For some there is just as much competition on the terraces as there is on the pitch, with a focus on the footwear, and in this game of one-upmanship, the more rare, unique and clean the silhouette the greater the chance of a win. With this in mind PUMA have delved in to the archives to create a selection of models and colourways perfect for the terraces. Four match-day classics – ROMA, TRIMM QUICK, STAR and G. VILAS all make a return with the quality and style synonymous PUMA.

First up is the ROMA, which was inspired by and named after the 1960 Summer Games held in Rome. After 8 years of development with the brand’s top athletes, the shoe made it’s debut on the world stage in Mexico City at the following Summer Games. It proved to be a world-class athletic trainer and popularity on-track led to the Roma becoming a casual staple, even before the days of terrace fashion. Four classic colourways – Chestnut, Grey, Navy and Black – are each contrasted by white formstripes, lining and midsole and rounded off by a gum outsole.

The TRIMM QUICK is up next. Since the 1960s Germany has run a national Trimm-Dich (Get-fit) campaign. As the nation’s people moved from manual labour to office jobs and controlling machines, this government initiative promoted a healthy lifestyle by building outdoor fitness parks and running tracks, and this is where the TRIMM QUICK comes in to play. Designed for these free public spaces the robust construction in conjunction with the studded sole provided support and traction on the outdoor gyms. The fact that they are built to withstand harsh German winters, muddy trails and intense workouts means the model will always look fresh when Saturday comes. Again the model will be available in a quartet of clean colourways – white, burgundy, navy and black.

The third of the four silhouettes is the STAR which was originally released in 1971 as the Wimbledon. Not only is the chunky midsole aesthetically pleasing, but it also gave tennis players of the early ‘70s an extra advantage, thanks to its orthopaedic approach. The STAR is the most subtle of the terrace collection, but retains the unorthodox thick midsole, perforated formstripe and classic tennis style it is loved for. Unlike the other it will come in a single colourway, that combines a black upper with a white lining and sole-unit.

Rounding things off is the G. VILAS which is named after Guillermo Vilas, who won over 900 matches in the Open Era, which resulted in 62 career titles, 4 major single titles and a place in Tennis history. His success on court, long hair and good looks earned Vilas a strong fan base; women wanted to be with him and men wanted to be him; and the easiest first step was lacing up a fresh pair of the Getting a fresh pair of G. VILAS. This AW15 refresh brings arguably the most iconic of the brand’s terrace classics back to the stands in three new colourways – blue, navy and grey, each of which is completed by a gum outsole.
