Riding High: a Closer Look at the PUMA Rider Series

Following a strong return to the streets, join us as we take a closer look at the PUMA RIDER series, where comfort and stability have been matched with a lively and contemporary aesthetic that looks as strong today as it did when the series first launched. Retro editions of past icons can sometimes dilute the heritage of an original design, but with the Rider collection PUMA have kept true to the originals whilst enhancing the range where appropriate and ensuring that the legacy remains untainted.

Debuting back in 1980, the Fast Rider featured a lightweight construction to keep things agile up top, but the addition of a reliable shock-absorbing outsole meant the shoe could still be put through its paces. Today, the design returns in its PUMA FAST RIDER OG format, introducing this archival masterpiece to a new, younger generation of footwear aficionados. Whilst old school is cool, the refreshed edition adds new materials and updated colour blocking to keep things cutting-edge for 2019. Underneath, a new slimmed-down outsole offers unbeatable traction, whilst ultra-comfortable Rider Foam in the midsole keeps true to the original shoe’s buoyancy. The PUMA STYLE RIDER is another throwback from the early ’80s that transcends its age with subtle but worthy updates for 2019. As with other members of the series, it’s no surprise to find lightweight materials and a simple, supportive construction has been utilised throughout the design. The TPU heel stabiliser in the sole unit gives unparalleled support, resulting in a well-balanced design that offers more than the sum of its parts.

The PUMA FUTURE RIDER is a new design and addition to the series, inspired by the classic Fast Rider running shoe from 1980. As part of PUMA’s Futro initiative which combines Future and Retro elements, designs such as the Future Rider take the foundations and DNA from PUMA’s legacy and bolster things with appropriate and considered updates for the current day. The functional ripstop nylon and durable smooth suede panels sit on top of resilient rubber outsoles, resulting in a functional piece of footwear that echoes the very best qualities of its predecessors.
