There’s no denying that the launch of the PUMA RS collection deserved to be executed in style. The revised RS Running System continues where the original concept left off, reminding us just how progressive the RS-100 and its cohorts were, especially considering just how long ago they were unleashed onto the market. With that in mind, PUMA put on a celebratory event in Berlin, giving us the opportunity to see the original models alongside their updated counterparts.
Taking the original RS design and reducing it back down to its foundations meant that PUMA could focus on keeping things efficient and dynamic for the revamped collection. As an introductory model to the new series, the RS-0 takes inspiration from its predecessors but has enough contemporary touches to ensure that it keeps that futuristic edge of the original concept. In the event space in Berlin, we were able to take a closer look at the freshly-launched collection in the flesh alongside the original models, including the RS Computer OG and the RS-100.
As well as the revamped RS range, PUMA had prepared a selection of new models and collaboration projects for us to check out in advance of their release. The forthcoming SEGA x PUMA RS-0 SONIC the Hedgehog collection will already be on many wants lists, but others, such as the PUMA x POLAROID collection or the PUMA RS-0 ROLAND project will definitely be striking a chord with those who appreciate the significance of the brands. In an age when appropriate and logical collaborations seem few and far between, PUMA has proven to be the masters of relevant and compelling partnerships.
As we took in the sights and followed the cultural threads that held the space together, we eventually found ourselves at the arcade area, where we were able to show off our (lack of) skills on the vintage arcade consoles. A fitting end to our trip back to the future.
