PUMA X BLACK RAINBOW R698 + R698 LTWT

 

A collaboration that was a long time in the making sees PUMA team up with Parisian multi-media empire BLACK RAINBOW for an exciting project – The PUMA R698 + R698 LTWT x BLACK RAINBOW.

The duo of Jay Smith and Greg Hervieus formed the company in 2006 which now comprises of a retail space, magazine, website; creative agency and fashion label have worked their magic with two of Puma’s most desired runners. The R698 and LTWT hybrid were chosen to marry the past and present, with a sprinkle of the future.

Originally introduced during the 1990’s, the R698 was an iconic running shoe which gained credibility through Puma’s Trinomic motion control technology. Characterised by their thick and robust midsole with a series of supportive panels across the upper, they are one of Puma’s most popular running shoes for both form and function.

The LTWT (LightWeight) version continues on from the classic shoe and fuses it with new materials, technology and manufacturing processes. Lightweight synthetic suede, breathable air mesh, minimal stitching, a floating saddle construction and Puma’s Faas 300 tooling have all been utilized to shed ounces in weight.

The pack takes inspiration from nature, featuring a range of earth, forest and camo tones, with a combination of materials and textures. The off-white midsole, dark brown interior and gum sole continue the theme. Modern additions on the LTWT include microfibers, ripstop materials and an aqua blue sole. Accent pieces and branding details are also highlighted with the same effect.

Puma and Black Rainbow have come together to produce two shoes from different eras, serving different jobs but yet both styles uniquely blend together from the same origins. Thus proving, to evolve effectively one must know where they have come from, and justifying Black Rainbow’s mission of effectively bringing together classic styles from the past and present.
