PUMA RF COA

If you are one of Ronnie Fieg’s 107k Instagram followers you will no doubt have noticed that, hot of the heels of his New Balance double drop, the New Yorker has already lined up his next project: the PUMA x RONNIE FIEG DISC BLAZE COAT OF ARMS.

Confessing it to be his favourite PUMA silhouette, Fieg already had his way with the Disc Blaze back in 2012, modifying the originally-asymmetric toebox and throwing oceanic-toned nubuck onto it to create the ‘Cove’. He’s sticking with this custom model for his sophomore PUMA project, which is a double pack of luxury leather and contrast-coloured toes, somewhat a RF trademark.

Pebbled and perforated black leather covers the midsection and rear, which is enclosed within the translucent plastic and leather Disc ‘cage’. This monochromatic section could easily be boring, but through his use of materials Fieg has created some impressive layers on the shoe – the luxury and technical elements are intertwined quite beautifully. The use of luxury leather elements side-by-side with the more techy plastic elements give this already-progressive model a truly futuristic feel – these shoes could be straight out of the Matrix!

Perforated brushed nubuck in either mint or coral cover the toes, with a very special black and 3M-speckled midsole adding some interesting texture. While the corals sport a solid black one, the mint colourway’s outsole looks to be an icy blue, which might just tip our favour towards this half of the pack. Rounding everything up is the ‘RF’ and ‘COA’ branding to the heel section, Disc tab and insole.

Both colourways of the PUMA X RONNIE FIEG DISC BLAZE COAT OF ARMS PACK drop initially at a special KITH pop-up store in Paris today, 16.1.14, and then exclusively in the UK, in-store at DOVER STREET MARKET on SATURDAY, 01.02.14.
