Putting Antwerp On The Map: adidas Consortium x Avenue EQT 93/16 Support

The ADIDAS CONSORTIUM X AVENUE EQT 93/16 SUPPORT takes design cues from the Antwerp Six to offer two tonal takes on the ’90s running model.

The next footwear installment from adidas Consortium takes us to the small Belgian city of Antwerp for a spin on the EQT Support from local sneaker boutique Avenue.

Opened by Lina Frediksson in 2007, the collaboration with adidas marks the store’s tenth anniversary year and tips its hat to a group of pioneering fashion designers known as the Antwerp Six. They studied at the city’s Royal Academy and soon broke onto the global scene, putting Antwerp on the map and cementing the school’s fashion course as one of the best in the world.

The Fashion Museum MOMU now preserves the creatives’ work and shares the same neighbourhood as the Avenue store, which Fredikkson has reflected in her collaborative EQT 93/16 Support model. Working with High St. Gallery and The Bruin Co. designer Michael Hernandez, the Avenue owner incorporated influences from her native Scandinavia with the Antwerp Six’s forward thinking fashion sensibilities to create two EQT 93/16 Support models.

Removing the shoe from its running roots, the silhouette is decked out in tonal aniline leather uppers with vegetable dyed leather lining to offer a luxury edge, with little other adjustment made apart from embroidery hits on the mid-foot, heel, and quintessential 3-stripes branding. Available in either tan or black, the Avenue iteration of the popular ‘90s range is set to be a future classic.

The ADIDAS CONSORTIUM X AVENUE EQT 93/16 SUPPORT is available for presale at the AVENUE store in Antwerp on SATURDAY 27 MAY, before going on general release from SATURDAY 3 JUNE.
