REEBOK WORKOUT & CLASSIC LEATHER SS14 RELEASES
2014 is most definitely the year of the Instapump Fury, as REEBOK look to celebrate its space-age aesthetic for the 20th anniversary of its inception. However 2012 and 2013 saw the WORKOUT PLUS and the CLASSIC LEATHER get a heavy slew of collaborative releases to celebrate 25 and 30 years respectively since their original release. Disappointingly we haven’t seen too much of either model so far this year but fear not, as Offspring have just quietly dropped two SMUs (special make-up) of each.
We’ll start with the Workout Plus as it’s a firm Drop Date favourite. Simply but very cleanly executed, the upper gets blacked out entirely in suede, with some punchy acid green highlights popping up on the H-strap branding and on the tongue label. An all-white sole unit and some more of those green hits on the footbed finish this makeup off so nicely. The other pair is a little more classic (no pun), with a navy suede and canvas upper slapped onto a thick slice of gum sole–can’t beat toffee bottoms. It’s kept clean with minimal branding in white on the midsection and red on the woven tongue label. These are definitely two of those slept-on pairs that fly under the radar for which you will be trawling the internet in desperation in 6 months’ time–invest now!
Like the Workouts, the CL gets some fairly lowkey colourways but ones that are eminently wearable. Onto the first pair they’ve thrown a deep shade of red in a mixture of suede and canvas and picked out the midsection stripes with navy leather. A hidden detail on this pair is the grey cracked leather heel tab, which is a nice little addition to a well-finished colour-up. The other makes use of the same blocking and materials but flips the upper to iron grey, uses the same shade of red for the stripes and throws navy onto the heel tab. Both pairs are sat on the ever-relevant white midsole with the gum outer.
