SAUCONY are better than good when it comes to their collaborations, but the fact that their general release offerings hold their weight in today’s relentless bombardment of good shoes speaks volumes of the brand and its recent resurgence. The SHADOW ORIGINAL is a trainer that has a look of simplicity, yet with its solid construction, heavyweight materials and strategic tech, that is most definitely not to be called simple.

We cant claim to knowing a great deal about the original Shadow, but we do know that it was the first in the line of the trio, paving the way for the excellent Shadow 5000 & 6000, with both models going on to figure strongly in the brands recent rise into the lifestyle market over the past few years. The Shadow VS is another model that sits in with the clan, and you can see inspiration in them all from the Originals shape, lines and overall make-up.

The upper is a combination of a loose weave, breathable mesh toebox, whilst the sidewalls and tongue are lined with a  robust, lightly glossed nylon. The suede overlays give the shoe it’s defence, and holds the webbing that wraps the heel counter, firmly in place. The plastic moulded heel cup gives the upper the support, and it sits upon the same sole unit as the Jazz Original, comprising of a two piece foam midsole and the rugged XT600 rubber outsole.
