With so much information being shared and so many new articles continually being published online, it’s always a treat to be reminded of past favourites or things we may have missed along the way. Our good friends over at SNEAKER FREAKER have had a proper dig around in their filing cabinets and brought back their excellent WHAT IS THE REAL COST OF MAKING A SNEAKER? feature to our attention.

An in-depth look at manufacturing costs and other factors that affect the cost – and retail price – of our favourite shoes, this piece was originally titled WHY THE IPHONE IS KILLING THE SNEAKER INDUSTRY when it was published back in April 2011. They’ve repackaged it slightly (with a less sensational headline!) but it’s a truly great piece that throws up just as many questions as it answers. With industry experts (such as the always-interesting reports from people such as Matt Powell at Forbes) taking time to educate us on what goes on behind the scenes of the sales figures and manufacturing process, this piece feels particularly timely right now.
