The SNEAKER FREAKER X ASICS GEL KAYANO – MELVIN: SON OF ALVIN is the long-awaited follow-up to the Purple Alvin release that shook the world many moons ago. Coming from a land down under, these black and yellow Asics Kayanos look like killer bees for the feet – and, reading initial impressions, we expect the enthusiasm to be strong.

The Asics Kayano is an underrated model, often shunned in place of the Gel-Lyte series, but has slowly gained support recently due to some nice general release colourways and some decent co-labs (take a bow, Packer Shoes). The shoe is very comfortable, with a longer toepiece than its Gel-Lyte family members, and has lots of interesting panels and sections to play with when it comes to colourways. The Sneaker Freaker crew certainly got busy with this one: 3M glitter, speckled midsoles, polka dot laces… You name it, it’s on here. And, face it, black and yellow is always going to work on a shoe like this, isn’t it? Comfort, style, hype: this shoe really does have it all.
