SNEAKERNESS AMSTERDAM ROUND UP

Amsterdam is a city with a rich trainer culture and plays host to some great stores; which include, but are not limited to: ACHT, PATTA, OqIUM, SNEAKER DISTRICT and NO BOYS ALLOWED. A couple of these stores are responsible for what many collectors consider some of the most desirable collaborations on the market, so it is no surprise that this is one of the locations in Europe chosen to host a Sneakerness event.

This is the fifth time Sneakerness has been held in Amsterdam, but the first time at its new location, Roest, on the east side of town. The new location, with its graffitied walls and industrial feel created a very cool and laid back vibe, which worked really well for a trainer event and suited the host city perfectly.

The two-day event was packed with stalls selling trainers to suit almost every kind of collector and enthusiast, from casual through to basketball; vintage through to recent releases and bargain bucket to bank bursting buys. Among the many great stalls were PRIME with their almost unbeatable selection of Air Max 1 heat, DEAUP with lots of incredible samples, and DRISS looking after those with a love for vintage. The collectors who also appreciate art were catered for by KWILLS with his amazing sketches and apparel and TEAM BLAZIN were there showing off their impressive calligraphy skills and providing those at the event with custom pieces throughout the day.

Despite the terrible weather at the weekend, lots of people still brought the heat. Although almost every brand was spotted on-foot, it was clear to see that Nike and Asics were the two main brands of choice in Amsterdam, which shows in the selection of on-foot shots seen below. Even though there were lots of hyped shoes being rocked, it was great to see lots of variation of brands and styles: it keeps things fresh and perfectly demonstrates the diversity of this culture.

Among the many visitors to Sneakerness there was a special guest; BOBBITO GARCIA aka Kool Bob Love, who was visiting Amsterdam due to the release of his apparel collaboration with Patta, that launched on Saturday. Bobbito also provided the tunes alongside DJ Edzon for the Friday night pre-party at Cafe De Duivel and the after-show party at Baut on Saturday night.

Thank you to the organisers for making us feel really welcome – you did a great job. Sneakerness Amsterdam ’14 was a really good event and we are already looking forward to the next one.
