Sneakers76 x Le Coq Sportif R1000 ‘Guardian of the Sea’ – Release Info

The SNEAKERS76 x LE COQ SPORTIF R1000 ‘GUARDIAN OF THE SEA’ drop is an intriguingly named collaboration between the Italian sneaker shop and French brand.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Sneakers76 teamed up with LCS to take the R1000 silhouette and add features, fabrics and colours that are inspired by a historical lighthouse in Capo San Vito, Sicily. How have they delivered a look that is reminiscent of the sun-kissed landscape and clear blue sea in this corner of the Mediterranean? To pull it off, they constructed the upper with sand-coloured, perforated nubuck base, also including smooth stone-coloured nubuck and a blue-green heel that symbolizes the sea. Other premium touches, such as wood effect eyelets and cognac leather tongues, add refinement. The left tongue has the Le Coq Sportif logo embossed on it, while the Sneakers76 logo is on the right. As for the name, ‘Guardian of the Sea’? The lighthouse is a historic monument built on the grounds of an old monastery and, as the legend has it, the light emitted prevented countless shipwrecks, stretching all the way back to antiquity. Whatever the history, the end product delivers the kind of sophisticated Mediterranean style that looks effortless – or as the Italians say, ‘sprezzatura.’
