SONRA Proto BAE Is The Debut Silhouette from Solebox Founder Hikmet Sugoer

After leaving the Solebox organisation last year, founder Hikmet Sugoer has been busy working behind the scenes on his new footwear project, and has now debuted the SONRA PROTO BAE.

The SONRA proto comes in a eye catching pink colourway that Hikmet calls ‘BAE’, which stands for ‘Before Anyone Else’. Eager to learn more, The Drop Date got in touch with Hikmet and asked him to describe the project. In his own words:

“Customers desire non-irritant leather but most conventional leathers cannot fulfill this wish, so SONRA protos have been made of the most environmental- and skin-friendly leathers on the market. The increasing number of skin allergies, among other things, caused by chrome leather have been known to dermatologists for a long time. Modern production techniques in the leather industry can save energy, raw materials and waste but unfortunately these techniques often do not occur in undeveloped and developing nations. Tanning leather with chrome has been used since the 19th century. Today 85-90 % of the worldwide leather production – approximately 24 billion square feet – is tanned with chrome. SONRA protos, on the other hand, are made of vegetable (Tara/Valonea) tanned leather from Germany, so they are free from heavy metals. And each pair of shoes is handcrafted and made in Germany”.
