StockX marked the opening of their new London Drop-Off point with STOCKPILED: THREE DECADES OF ACCUMULATION – a unique opportunity to see some of the highlights and rarities from the personal collection of The Drop Date’s very own Chris Aylen. Having amassed a weird and wonderful mix of footwear, apparel, artwork, books and merchandise over the past thirty years, the contents of the show spanned the whole gamut of streetwear, from unreleased footwear grails and rare Supreme box logo t-shirts through to vintage skate decks from the early ’80s and collaborative vinyl figures from the likes of Kaws and Michael Lau. As well as all this, a selection of signed pieces and original artwork from Futura 2000, Andy Jenkins and Andy Mueller were shown for the first time as part of the main wall display.

A small selection of more recent releases were present (such as a sample version of the first yellow and black Pharrell NMDs and the super-reflective Air Max Lunar 90 SP ‘Moon Landing’) but those who were looking for something a little more unusual were well-catered for by The Vault: an enclosed space at the end of the room. Inside this section were some of the more obscure and rarefied shoes from the age of the Hyperstrike and beyond: the Nike x NORT Air Talaria, Nike x Sole Collector Air Presto ‘Hawaii’, Nike x Stüssy Air Huarache Lite and a unique adidas x Diggers With Gratitude Superstar Skate joined several other unreleased or strictly promo pieces, illuminated by a set of the KAWS x Standard Hotel lightbulbs. A special section paid tribute to the late, great Gary Warnett, featuring the special friends + family adidas GWAR-TEX Waterproof, Nike Air Span II GW and Reebok Workout Ripple Low Gary Warnett models which were created in his memory.

Keeping with the theme of merchandise and ephemera, a giveaway zine served as a document of the exhibition, giving a personal history and some context to the collection and offering some more detailed information about several of the featured pieces. This also gave visitors a small taste of a forthcoming book which is due to follow in 2020: keep an eye out for more information on this to follow soon.

Due to popular request, the STOCKPILED: THREE DECADES OF ACCUMULATION exhibition has been extended until TUESDAY 12 NOVEMBER: head down to the new London Drop-Off point located at 47 Poland Street, Soho, London W1F 7NB and catch the show before it disappears back into the archives for another thirty years… In the meantime, click the banner below to check out the latest gems on offer at STOCKX.
