THE GOOD WILL OUT X DIADORA “THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE” packages the exploits of two notorious Roman Emperors…

For their upcoming collaboration with Diadora, the Cologne-based store looks towards two notorious figures in Roman history. Caligula was known for being simply outrageous, whilst Nerone was said to execute anybody who disagreed with him…including his own mother. Embodying their dick dastardly spirit across Diadora models, the V7000 and S8000, the result is two brazen models that are sure to catch the eye of any passerby.

The heinous exploits of Nerone are captured on the Diadora S8000, which incorporates various shades of red inspired by the myth that he sent a partisan to set the city Rome alight whilst playing the lyre and singing from a private stage. The top heel collar utilizes cracked patent leather to symbolize glowing embers after a fire, with debossed TGWO branding taking to the tongue alongside the Diadora model number in red Latin numerals to the side. The heel counter also houses a debossed Nero coin design alongside his infamous saying: “Let it be wonderful or let it be awful as long as it is uncommon.”

Caligula lightens the mood slightly, with a Liberace-style attack on the V7000.  A little different to  Afew’s pharmaceutical spin on the silhouette, The Good Will Out make good use of the Emperor’s reputation as a true eccentric, starting with a toga-inspired off-white base on the upper. Things don’t stay conservative for very long, with the Diadora stripe branding overlaid in golden cracked patent leather, referencing the wealth and opulence of that era. A coating of pony hair is added to the heel counter, signifying Caligulaʼs beloved horse, Incitatus. Corresponding with the S800, a Caligula coin is branded on the heel along with the Diadora model number in Latin numerals and Caligula’s famous quote: “Let them hate us so long as they fear us.”

Both models carry the brand’s ‘Made In Italy’ tag and incorporate premium materials including goat leather, kangaroo Nappa leather, Picasso goat leather, and 54“ linen. A solid shout out to the lunacy of two prolific Roman figures, this loud pack is worthy of space in any “out-there” collections…
