ORIGINAL ARTICLE 20/03/24: When you take a first glance at the all-new Nike Air Max Plus Hiker, there’s probably a few things that might come to mind. They’re a bit different! They look sick! Or maybe, wtf is that thing on the heel? Whatever your initial thoughts, the Swoosh are here to let us know that this dynamic offering is officially on route. Let’s take a closer look at what the shoe entails!

A Closer Look at the Nike Air Max Plus Hiker ‘Patina’ (HF5688-280)…

In a nutshell, this adventurous model combines the TN’s DNA with an ACG-esque steez for a look that’s as functional as it is agile. Intended for use on the trail (hence the Hiker title), the silhouette is ready to tackle the trickiest of terrains. Encapsulating the upper, a zip-up mesh overlay brings a visual edge whilst doubling as a protective layer. Pretty innovative, right? And of course, as with any outdoor release from the Oregon-based label, a waterproof construction is non-negotiable.

Our favourite element of the shoe has to be the rugged aesthetic, communicated through rusty gradients throughout the body and lower. Donning a cracked finish within the midsole, the shoe gives the impression that it’s already accustomed to the trials and tribulations of the trail, ready and raring to go. Even the Swoosh doesn’t follow conventions, adopting a rusty persona that looks like it’s been left in the rain. And lastly, we have to address the elephant in the room, aka, that little pouch on each heel. What on earth is this for? The choice is yours – and if you’re all out of ideas, it’s easily removable.
