When Two Worlds Collide: The ASICS Tiger x Porter Gel-Kayano

The ASICS TIGER X PORTER GEL-KAYANO is the perfecting meeting of minds between two Japanese brands.

This month sees two Japanese heavyweights join heads, with ASICS welcoming premium bag retailer Porter on board to reimagine their high-performance running silhouette, the Gel-Kayano.

A fashion conscious collaboration based on the sneaker’s original early ‘90s design, it balances the minimalistic personality of both brands with a distinctive design. The shoe’s uppers take note from Porter’s classic Tanker range and share the same nubuck and nylon twill fabrications, which are used across the shoe’s all-black monosock structure. An elasticated tongue, upper ankle opening, oversized heel protector and cushioned black midsole with orange accents ensure that comfort isn’t an issue.

An injection of Porter branded hits are incorporated via a logo brandished side tag, which is accompanied by the company’s trademark orange splashed across the sole unit and lining. The same drawstring cord used on the Tanker bags is available as a lacing system for the shoe, as well as traditional flat black laces, mirroring Porter’s signature style down to even the smallest details.

A collaboration that fuses footwear heritage with contemporary accessories from Japan, this stylized effort definitely isn’t one to be missed this summer.
