The History
1920-1949
The Dassler brothers, Adolf "Adi" and Rudolf open the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik, a small shoe manufacturing operation in Bavaria, Germany. The adidas brand was established in 1948 by Adi following a disagreement with Rudolf, who established PUMA.
1950s - 1960s
As a sportswear powerhouse in 1950, adidas introduced its iconic Three Stripes logo, which became a symbol of quality and performance. Four years later, the German national football team won the World Cup while wearing adidas boots, further solidifying the company's reputation. At the Rome Olympics in 1960, adidas debuts, gaining widespread recognition.
1970s - 1980s
As adidas entered the 1970s, the iconic Superstar basketball shoe became a fashion symbol outside of sports. To demonstrate its commitment to gender equality, adidas designed a track shoe with spikes exclusively for female athletes. During the 1980s, adidas experimented with technology-based footwear, launching the Micropacer in 1984. adidas launched the ZX series in 1986, with new cushioning options for runners.
1990s -2000s
With the launch of the iconic Predator football boot in 1994, adidas expanded rapidly in the 1990s. The adidas "Feet You Wear" technology emphasizes natural foot movement and stability in 1997. adidas acquired Reebok in 2005, solidifying its position in athletic footwear and apparel during the 2000s. The company introduced the Energy Boost in 2009, the first shoe with adidas BOOST cushioning.
2010s
Sustainable fashion and fashion collaborations dominated the 2010s. adidas partnered with Parley for the Oceans in 2012, making shoes from recycled ocean plastic waste. Kanye West collaborated with the brand in 2015 to launch the popular Yeezy sneakers, blurring the line between streetwear and sportswear.

The brand continues to innovate and pursue sustainability by exploring sustainable materials, such as PrimeBlue. In 2021, adidas celebrated its 70th anniversary, reflecting on its rich history and commitment to excellence in sportswear.
